DIY Updates

I have been keeping myself busy around the house the past few weeks. (I know, as if the toddler isn't enough right?!?!) Checking things off my list keeps my mind from thinking about things I shouldn't and keep me from worrying so much. About a year ago I painted our front door. It was green, yup...green. I loved it...for a while. Then I got tired of it, that's me for ya! We have black shutters, black railing, and black outside lights so I decided to paint the door black. It's amazing! I wish I would have done it sooner. I did it during an nap time one afternoon. When Mark got home he said "hey, but I liked the green." I smiled and finished putting dinner on the table. LOL! Nothing more has been said. ;)

 Yes, it was snowing when I took the picture. I was the crazy lady outside in my slippers taking pictures of my own house. The neighbors already know I do crazy things so they probably didn't think anything of it.

Another project I completed was painting our counter-tops. This was a chore. When we moved in they were TERRIBLE yellow.

About a year after moving in we used counter-top paint kit and painted them a grey color. The only picture I could find of the kitchen was a picture from Wyatt's b-day party. Oh well, you can see I painted the cabinets and the counter-tops...

Then...a few weeks ago I got a wild hair. (This is what happens to an OCD person when they are "nesting.") I found a YouTube video that showed you how to paint your counter-tops using craft paint and a paper towel for under $30. It worked! To finished it though it requires a varnish that was $30 itself so the total came to a little under $50 with the varnish. I didn't need as many paint bottles as the YouTube video said. Mark did the varnish one afternoon while I was gone...

There you have it...faux granite counter-tops! 

That's it for my projects as of now. I have a few going as we speak but they aren't finished. Soon...very soon! ;)
